Land surface modeling and data assimilation specialist International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), Dubai Two Fixed Term Appointments for 18 months initially USAID funded position The International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture Dubai (www.biosaline.org) in collaboration with NASA and USAID would like to invite applications for two land surface modeling and data assimilation specialists. The primary goal of this work is to use remote sensing data to better describe hydroclimatic variability and improve water resources planning for the Middle East and North Africa region. Duties will include 1) implementation and optimization of NASA's Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Land Data Assimilation System (LDAS) model at the facilities in Dubai 2) design and testing of algorithms for simulating groundwater storage and runoff in these models for the MENA region; 3) performing specialized simulations for various scenarios over regions of interest; 4) analysis of results and validation with ground truth data. Candidates must have strong computational skills including FORTRAN programming and data visualization (e.g., GrADS). The most highly qualified candidates should have strong knowledge in hydrology/hydrogeology and remote sensing with experience in land surface modeling, remote sensing, and/or data assimilation. The ability to communicate results effectively both orally and in written publications is important. A Masters Degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field of Earth science or computer science must be held or imminent at the time of hire.
