 Senior Groundwater SpecialistLocation: DELFT, The Netherlands Background IGRAC (The International Groundwater Resource Assessment Centre) is the UNESCO global groundwater centre which also works under auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and has a close cooperation (MoU) with the IAH (International Association of Hydrogeologists). Since 2003, IGRAC provides independent content and process support to assessment, monitoring and management of internationally shared groundwaters. The centre promotes and facilitates worldwide exchange of groundwater knowledge and contributes to assessment of the global groundwater resources. Responsibilities The senior groundwater specialist participates in the development and implementation of all major IGRAC activities, including Global Groundwater Monitoring Network (GGMN) programme and the assessment of internationally shared aquifers within the ISARM programme (http://www.isarm.org). The specialist is responsible for further development of groundwater governance and water diplomacy related activities. The duties also include organization, conductance and follow-up of meetings and workshops organised by IGRAC in various parts of the World. Education and skills Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in hydrogeology or related environmental science area is required. Addition formal training in the fields of social sciences, information and knowledge management would be an asset. The specialist needs to have a multisectoral and multidisciplinary understanding of international groundwater issues, including the environmental, socio-economic, organisational, legal and political aspects. Work Experience A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in groundwater related international programmes and projects. Experience also with non-technical aspects of groundwater problems would be considered as advantage. Languages English is the working language of IGRAC and for the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.
