JBA Risk Management [www.jbarisk.com] are looking for a python developer to join our growing software team, helping to deliver our market-leading flood catastrophe models, used by some of the world's largest organisations.

The role

We are looking for a numerically and scientifically literate Python developer to help us deliver fast, high-resolution and methodologically innovative catastrophe models to our clients. You'll work on the core of our catastrophe analysis engine, its supporting components and the code used to automate building of model datasets.

About you

  • You're bright, inquisitive, quick to learn and interested in what we do!
  • You have some experience of Python programming experience (not necessarily in a commercial setting)
  • You appreciate the value of OO and good design practices / principles - DRY, SOLID, etc. - even if not widely experienced in their application (we can teach you)

  • You enjoy collaborating and being part of a cohesive team
  • You are flexible and happy to be involved in a wide range of software development activities (speaking to users, designing / writing / testing code, writing documentation)
  • You take pride in the quality of your work
  • You're not afraid of change, within reason and with support, and you're driven to create working software

An ideal candidate will additionally be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience of applying Python to scientific, computationally intensive problems involving large datasets
  • Experience in managing projects and teams

The job will be based in our Skipton (North Yorkshire) office.
