James Cook University and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training invite applications for a:

3 year post-doctoral position in hydrological sciences
(full time)

For a period of 3 years starting as soon as possible.

Job description: A 3 year postdoctoral position in hydrological sciences is available immediately as part of a collaborative Australian project on groundwater and surface water interaction. Expressions of interest are invited for the post-doctoral position at James Cook University, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences through the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT). You will be part of the JCU hydrology group (www.jcu-hydrology-lab.com) and will work within Program 3 of the NCGRT (www.groundwater.com.au). James Cook University is strengthening its role as a key player in hydrological sciences in Australia and internationally. This position is aimed at complementing the current research in hydrology and hydrogeology, focusing particularly on groundwater and surface water interaction in tropical rivers.

Qualifications: Sought areas of expertise include hydrochemistry, hydrodynamics, modeling, catchment hydrology, and surface/groundwater interaction. We aim to appoint a high profile scholar in the area who will increase our research impact as measured by publications in high-level academic journals.

She/he should have a PhD in hydrology, hydrogeology or a related field and fluency in English. Team work and communication skills are essential.

Desirable: a track record of journal publications; experience in hydrochemical modelling and/or tracing at catchment scale; experience in the study of groundwater surface water interaction; experience in the management of research projects.

Location: You will be based at JCU in Cairns. The physical location of JCU - in Cairns, northern Queensland, Australia - supports exciting opportunities for a range of research topics on water resource issues in the wet and the dry tropics. Boasting two World Heritage areas (the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef), northern Queensland also has one of Australia's fastest growing populations. The successful candidate would also be travelling regularly to the NCGRT in Adelaide.

Application: To apply, submit a letter of application, CV, and the names and contact information of three references before 28 February 2010 to jcu10011@earthworks-jobs.com.
