Postdoctoral position in water resources management

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to join a research team working on an 18-month project in the Department of civil and water engineering at Laval University, Quebec-City, Canada.

The main goal of the project is to assess vulnerability of water users in the Senegal River basin to climate and policy changes. This project is a collaborative effort involving Laval U., Ouranos (Innovation Cluster on Climatology, www.ouranos.ca), FAO (United Nations) and OMVS (River Basin Authority). More specifically, the candidate will contribute to (i) the production of hydrologic and water demand projections for the horizons 2050 and 2070, (ii) the determination of optimal flow allocations in the basin and (iii) the vulnerability assessment of competing water uses and benefit sharing arrangements. This project is a follow-up of a larger initiative led by FAO on the management of transboundary waters in the Senegal River basin.

There will be opportunities to mentor graduate students, to undertake project management and be involved in a diversity of water resources management projects, both in Canada and overseas.

The selected candidate will hold a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering, or related field. The candidate should have substantial backgrounds in water resources systems analysis and good programming skills (Matlab and/or Python).

French reading skills are essential (French speaking skills are an asset).
