JOB DUTIES & REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: NEW MEXICO INSTITUTE OF MINING AND TECHNOLOGY invites applications for a research position in hydrogeology with the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR). The Bureau, a research and service division of New Mexico Tech, functions as the state geological survey with a staff of approximately 30 earth science professionals. Applicants must meet a minimum requirement of an M.S. degree in hydrology, geology, hydrogeology, or a closely related earth-science field, and a demonstrated record of innovative research emphasizing quantitative groundwater hydrology. Applicants with skills and interest in numerical, analytical, and statistical analysis and interpretation of hydrologic data, and 2 to 3 years of professional experience, will be given preference. Applicants with a Ph.D. or more than 3 years of experience are also encouraged to apply. Required qualifications include a strong geological background, experience in the interpretation of hydrologic and geochemical data at a regional or sedimentary-basin scale, and experience in technical writing. Significant experience with modeling software, such as MODFLOW, standard analyses such as hydrograph analysis, chloride mass balance calculations, and aquifer test analyses, and strong GIS skills are desired. Significant experience or knowledge relevant to New Mexico geology and hydrogeology is desired. The successful candidate will work closely with geologists and hydrogeologists at NMBGMR and will also have the opportunity to interact with New Mexico Tech's nationally recognized hydrology program. The position will involve innovative analysis of field hydrologic, geochemical, geologic, and geophysical data in support of a variety of ongoing hydrogeologic studies. Job funding will be a combination of state-appropriated soft money derived on an annual basis for the NMBGMR's Aquifer Mapping Program (AMP) and other contracts. Although the AMP is robust and NMBGMR has received adequate AMP contracts in the past, candidates should be aware that a full-time salary is not guaranteed, but is contingent on the availability of funds on an annual basis. The NMBGMR will make every effort to ensure that the successful candidate is continuously employed full time. The position includes full benefits from New Mexico Tech. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter that specifically addresses academic background and experience with regard to the required and desirable qualifications, a full resume, transcripts, and three professional references (address, email, and phone) to New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, 801 Leroy Pl., Human Resources Brown Hall Box 018, Socorro, NM 87801. Incomplete applications will not be considered. For full consideration application deadline is March 29, 2013, but will remain open until the position is filled. Visit Tech's web page at http://www.nmt.edu/. E mail applications are NOT accepted. |
