The Closed Landfill Team, which is part of the Waste Operations Unit, is responsible for the management of 152 closed landfill sites of which 30 are monitored and 7 licensed. This is an exciting time to join a newly formed team, who are taking such a forward thinking approach to closed landfill.

In this varied role you will responsible for monitoring and assessing the effects on groundwater and surface water of the closed landfill sites for which the County Council has responsibility. The role provides the opportunity of a mix of office and site based work and working alongside those responsible for the engineering, leachate and gas aspects of the landfill management.

You will be responsible, amongst other things, for the collation, interpretation and distribution of monitoring data. Duties also include maintaining environmental risk assessments and groundwater models, the design and management of contracts and budgets related to site investigation, groundwater remediation and groundwater analysis. In addition you will provide groundwater advice to other parts of the Council and Local Authorities.

You will possess a Masters degree in Hydrogeology and Chartered Professional status and ideally have previous experience in the waste or contaminated land industry. You will be IT literate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders and team members. The nature of the role requires post holders to travel to venues not on public transport routes.
