Job Purpose:

We're looking for a highly motivated science/engineering graduate with GIS, 1D, 1D/2D hydraulic river modelling, data management skills, skills for Flood & Coastal Risk Management work.

You will primarily analyse flood risk using and building hydraulic river mathematical models but also be involved with data management, project management of surveying and hydraulic modelling contracts, flood risk analysis including culvert assessment, wave analysis and civil engineering feasibility studies, controlling works affecting the physical characteristics of watercourses, river corridors, floodplains and flood defences under the provisions of Flood and Coastal Risk Management legislation, and to advise on the implications of development proposals and planning consultations so as to protect Flood and Coastal Risk Management Assets and other associated multifunctional interests by reviewing consents and planning applications including hydraulic models and flood consequence assessments.

Job Specific Criteria:

  1. Excellent spoken and written English
  2. A degree or equivalent in an engineering or environmental discipline, with experience in flood and coastal risk management;
  3. An understanding of hydraulics and ability to use and build hydraulic mathematical models utilising the latest software (training will be provided for new graduates);
  4. Flood defence and planning legislative knowledge;
  5. Analytical skills and numeracy are essential, as is a keen eye for detail and the ability to spot possible problems with development and consent applications;
  6. Good inter-personal skills and able to communicate technical issues, successfully with NRW teams, external consultants and the public
