The working group Hydrogeology and Landscape Hydrology at the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences offers a position for a:

PhD-student

(pay grade 13 TV-L, 50 %)

The position is available for 3 years, starting as soon as possible.

The working group Hydrogeology and Landscape Hydrology investigates hydraulic and hydrochemical processes in the aquatic environment, in particular the interaction between surface water and groundwater, water and matter transport in landscapes, the role of water in ecosystems and the behaviour of pollutants in groundwater.

The position is part of a DFG research project on the behavior of wastewater-bound organic micropollutants in groundwater with a particular focus on their redox-dependent biodegradation and long-term persistence. Laboratory experiments and field investigations on contaminated groundwater downstream of former sewage irrigation fields in Berlin are carried out within the project. The successful candidate will perform accompanying reactive transport modeling of field- and laboratory data to confirm developed conceptual models and to derive degradation rate constants in relation to the prevailing redox regime.

We are looking for a modeler with a university degree (Master or Diplom) in earth sciences, physics, applied mathematics, computer sciences or an equivalent education. The ideal candidate will have experience in numerical reactive transport modeling and a keen interest in hydrogeology and environmental sciences.

The University of Oldenburg strives to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science and encourages applications from female candidates. Handicapped applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualifications.

Applications can be submitted until the 31.10.2010 to Prof. Dr. Gudrun Massmann, Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, D26111 Oldenburg. For further inquires please contact Ms. Massmann at gudrun.massmann@uni-oldenburg.de.
