The Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry (CWiMI) conducts research towards achieving sustainable water management in the mining industry. The Centre aims to develop key technologies for the measurement, monitoring and modelling of water in the context of mine operations, their surrounding environments and regional communities. This is achieved by conducting systems science and engineering research; working with industry and government to facilitate adoption and technology transfer; and establishing, maintaining and providing access to a repository of knowledge.

CWiMI (http://www.cwimi.uq.edu.au) is a research centre of the Sustainable Minerals Institute (http://www.smi.uq.edu.au/). The SMI has been established at the University of Queensland to help meet the sustainability challenge of the minerals industry. The SMI is committed to intellectual development of the underlying concepts of minerals industry sustainability. Building on a long history and strong ethos of close involvement with the industry, the Centres of the SMI are linking disciplinary skills to develop practical and readily-applicable tools, processes and technologies.

The role: The role presents an exciting opportunity for a new Centre Director to lead CWiMI through its next phase of development and to continue to grow its reputation as a world leader in sustainable water management.

The person: Applicants should possess a higher degree in a relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate academic and professional leadership with proven ability to work constructively with the diverse set of stakeholders in this area. They must also have a strong knowledge of the resources industry and a record of scholarship, research and commercial achievement.

Remuneration: A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for five years with a possible additional term.
