In London the RMS Climate Hazards team models weather-related natural catastrophes which include: floods, storm surge, tropical storms, extratropical storms and convective storms. It consists of 30 scientists with backgrounds in mathematics, meteorology, hydrology, climatology, statistics and engineering.

The RMS Flood Team develops flood models which are used to assess flood risk for the insurance business. The modelling work carried out by the flood team encompasses all steps from hazard modelling to loss modelling.

Responsibilities

The Flood Team is seeking to hire an additional Risk Modeller. The ideal candidate will be a hydrologist or geographer (MSc or similar) and will assist the team to build large-scale hydrological and hydraulic models to assess flood risk for various locations around the world.

You must have a strong background in GIS and have experience of working on large data sets in a Linux environment. You should possess an analytical mindset and strong programming skills. Having the ability to work as part of a team is essential. Experience in hydrological and/or hydraulic modelling is regarded as a plus.
