This is an exciting time as we are expanding our hydrogeology team. We have a number of roles from Hydrogeologist right up to Principal Hydrogeologist grades for the right candidate. We are looking for talented, bright and dynamic hydrogeologists to join our team; people who love a technical challenge to drive our groundwater strategies forward. Ideally with a water resources management or regulatory background, we are looking for individuals with a sound practical understanding of hydrogeology who are great at communicating and influencing others with those brilliant ideas and who really understand how to think big.

One third of the Severn Trent Water supply system is obtained from about 300 groundwater sources. Our Hydrogeology Team uses their technical skills to shape the groundwater strategies for the company; providing expert advice to lead projects and programmes of work to support the Severn Trent goals. You will work with our stakeholders to protect and enhance the quality of our groundwater, interrogate and make improvements to our data systems, and undertake investigations so that we have the best evidence available from which we can make sound decisions.

If you join Severn Trent, you can expect to use your technical skills to work across several different areas, including:

  • Groundwater quality - understanding our groundwater systems, completing risk assessments and short to long-term complex investigations
  • Developing strategies to inform the Water Resources Management Plan and Price Review regulatory submissions; collaborating across the business as we build source-to-tap system plans influencing the business to transition away from traditional investment routes
  • Carry out self-led research on emerging contaminants, to define new investigations and to collaborate both internally and externally to promote new strategies
  • Promoting our ongoing borehole capital maintenance programme; acting as technical sponsor and ensuring that we have robust evidence-based understanding of how our groundwater sources work to ensure groundwater quantity and quality are maintained
  • Tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of the water for our customers.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

For these Hydrogeologist roles, we want to attract those with the right experience but we also value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.

With skill sets in mind, we need qualified hydrogeologists with a proven track record in hydrogeology/water resources management.

You will have an MSc in Hydrogeology (or similar) and a hold a breadth of knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Legislation influencing water resources and groundwater
  • The regulations and standards around drinking water quality
  • Asset management of groundwater assets
  • Groundwater and water resource evaluation processes and techniques
  • Contaminant investigations, remedial options, treatment processes
  • A track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders
  • An understanding of the water industry, the regulatory price review and the Water Resources Management Planning processes.

Senior and Principal Hydrogeologists will be expected to demonstrate a range of project / programme management skills and have a track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders.
