This PhD project has a focus on geohydrological processes related to CO2 injection in deep saline aquifers, as part of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. The PhD project will address one of the main CO2 trapping mechanisms, namely the residual trapping and its scale dependence. In our projects experimental and model analyses have and are being carried out over the entire range of scales; (i) the field scale (ii) the laboratory scale and (iii) the pore and core scale. The work of the PhD student will mainly be analysis and modeling of the experimental results, while a large part of the experimental work has been carried out by other researchers. Certain amount of experimental work in the laboratory/in the field will also be included.
