PhD and Masters Positions in Groundwater Hydrology

The RESTORE Research Group at Western University is seeking PhD and Masters students to work on an integrated project that will assess the contribution of groundwater to nutrient and pathogen pollution along beaches of the Great Lakes. This collaborative research project involves a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from RESTORE, Environment Canada's National Water Research Institute and the Ecohydrology Research Group (University of Waterloo).

The project will combine intensive field studies on Great Lake beaches with advanced numerical computer modeling. One PhD and one Masters position is available that will focus on quantifying groundwater discharge to the Great Lakes including the water exchange and flow processes occurring in the beach. Applicants should have experience in either: (a) designing and implementing field sampling and monitoring systems, (b) numerical modeling of environmental systems, or (c) hydrogeology.

The successful candidate will work in the RESTORE Research Group (http://www.eng.uwo.ca/research/restore/) at Western University and Environment Canada's National Water Research Institute. The RESTORE research group was recently awarded over $6 M to conduct field, experimental and modelling investigations focused on groundwater issues. It is a dynamic research group that includes 20 graduate students, 6 postdoctoral fellows and three laboratory technicians. Western University is located in Southern Ontario and is a leading Canadian academic institution that is committed to excelling as an innovative research intensive university.

Applications (including a cover letter, CV, academic transcript and contact information for three references) should be directed to Dr. Clare Robinson (crobinson@eng.uwo.ca). The application deadline is 15 April 2013.
