About OPRED

We're the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED), part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. We carry out the vital work of enforcing the environmental and decommissioning regulatory regime, covering everything from offshore oil and gas to carbon dioxide storage.

We're here to make sure that offshore energy activities are safe, properly assessed and as environmentally friendly as possible. We have big plans for the coming years, and, if you share our ambition, we want you to take part.

About your role

You'll help us make sure that our regulations take environmental and social objectives into account. You'll achieve this through effectively implementing domestic legislation, international agreements and agreed codes of practice. This way, we can prevent offshore energy activities having an adverse effect on the sea and wider environment.

Joining our Environment Management Team, you'll work across initial applications for licenses and operatorship as well as applications for geological surveys, drilling, well interventions, developments, marine discharges and the decommissioning of offshore facilities. You'll also advise operators on legislation, manage research activities and help develop our policies.

About your experience

We're looking for candidates with extensive experience and technical knowledge in offshore oil and gas, carbon capture, gas unloading and gas storage. You'll be able to effectively assess the environmental impact of offshore energy activities, combining this with a deep knowledge of the marine environment, climate change and atmospheric emissions.

You'll also need a degree or the equivalent experience in a relevant field such as climate and atmospheric science, environmental science or environmental management.

About our benefits

Working with us entitles you to a competitive mix of benefits including a Civil Service pension, extensive learning and development opportunities, and flexible working.
