Otago Regional Council manages the land, air and water resources, and provides flood and natural hazard protection and response on behalf of communities across Central Otago, Clutha, Waitaki, Queenstown Lakes and Dunedin. Otago covers a vast area (it's the third largest region in NZ) with diverse and complex alpine to coastal geological and hydrological environments. Climate change, seismic risk and pressure on critical infrastructure creates a challenging environment that requires a forward-thinking approach. That's where you come in! We're looking for passionate, committed professionals to lead our two Natural Hazards teams - these are newly created positions critical to facilitating our natural hazards' understanding and response, and climate change adaptation. Team Leader - Natural Hazards Analysis. Lead a team of five technical professionals that monitor, investigate, assess and analyse natural hazards and risks. You'll play a key role in facilitating our understanding of the risks posed by flooding, extreme weather, coastal erosion, storm surge, earthquakes, tsunami, landslides and alluvial fans in Otago. You'll work closely with other teams within ORC, consultants and contractors, the community, district councils and other stakeholders. Your team's work will help inform decisions and enable innovative community responses. You'll require a qualification in earth or physical sciences, environmental engineering, or associated fields and prior delivery management experience. A strong interest in and prior experience leading others, and the confidence, technical expertise to present and advise are a must! Team Leader - Natural Hazards Adaptation. Lead the development and delivery of work programmes related to natural hazards management and climate change adaptation in Otago. This is a new, unique team tasked with engaging with our communities in Otago to explore and implement solutions that will increase resilience to climate change impacts and natural hazards and risks. This is a hands-on role requiring excellent community engagement, planning/strategising and delivery management skills. You'll bring related experience working in the fields of natural hazards and risk management, disaster risk reduction, or climate change adaptation and planning, strategy development. Your qualification background may be in social science, environmental science, geography, policy and planning, or earth, physical science.
