The Institute of Geology and Palaeontology - Applied Geology of the Faculty of Geosciences (FB 14) at the University of Münster seeks to fill the following position by 1 April 2024:

Akademischer Rat/Akademische Rätin/ Research Associate (Post-doctoral Position) on a fixed-term employment basis in the area of organic environmental pollutants in water and soil/sediment

(salary level A13 LBesO)

We are offering a three-year, fixed-term position with the option to extend by an additional three years. The position is currently based on a 41-hour work week. The prospective candidate will be required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester (4 SWS).

Your tasks:

  1. independent, internationally relevant research in the field of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs)
  2. teaching duties (4 SWS) in the area of applied geology at the bachelor's (BSc) and master's (MSc) level
  3. supervision of doctoral candidates, bachelor's and master's students
  4. development of your own research project and profile
  5. shared supervision of an environmental analytical laboratory of applied geology
  6. organisational and administrative tasks within the working group

Your qualifications:

  1. completed dissertation in environmental geosciences, environmental studies, geosciences, analytical chemistry, food chemistry or similar discipline
  2. sound knowledge of organic environmental chemistry or organic geochemistry
  3. experience with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) or
  4. liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and sampling
  5. sound knowledge of English and German (written and verbal)
  6. experience with supervising doctoral candidates, bachelor's and master's students

As a member of the working group "Applied Geology", your research area will focus on the analysis, occurrence, behaviour, toxicity and remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and other organic environmental pollutants in water and soil. You can look forward to a diverse range of tasks in an interdisciplinary research environment and a well-equipped environmental analytical lab for conducting trace analysis with GC- and LC-APLI-TOFMS (highly sensitive techniques for analysing PAHs), LC-ESI-HRMS with direct injection for non-target analysis, GC-MS, GCxGC-MS, LC-DAD, IC and PSE in close vicinity to various labs operated by the University of Münster.
