Graduate Assistant Position Available at the University of Wyoming, Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC)

Description:

We are offering a funded Graduate Assistantship for Master's level graduate students, starting in August 2023. The position will be based with the Geospatial Digital Informatics (GeoDI Lab) in Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC), and work under the supervision of Dr. Di Yang. Generalized topics of the GA will include remote sensing and GIS applications on land-use changes and vegetation dynamics, geospatial modeling, machine learning and GeoAI. The GA will have access to field instrumentation (e.g., UAVs) as well as high performance computers (HPC) for research. Women and underrepresented groups in STEM are especially encouraged to apply. Qualifications:

  1. Ability to teach GIS related lab class.
  2. Effective communication (oral and written) skills.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of GIS, remote sensing, and machine learning techniques.
  4. Familiarity with R, Python, and/or GEE.
  5. Applicants with a BA or BS in any field will receive consideration. Those with a background in Geography, Geoinformatics; Ecology; Data Science; and/or interdisciplinary environmental studies, or related fields with relevant experience in geospatial data modeling and analysis are preferred.
  6. IELTS score 6.5 or higher (TOEFL 76 iBT or higher) for international applicants who attended university in a language other than English.
