The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn invites applications for a

W3-Professorship for Petrology

We are looking for an internationally renowned scientist with an outstanding track record in innovative research using experimental, theoretical and field-based investigations of structures and processes in rocks to understand the dynamics of geological systems, e.g. connected with subduction, volcanism, orogeny or material fluxes within the lithosphere and interactions between the different reservoirs of the Earth system.

Teaching is an integral part of the professorship. The future professor is expected to cover the entire range of petrology and fundamentals of structural geology in the B.Sc. Geosciences, M.Sc. Geology and M.Sc. Geochemistry/Petrology degree programmes and to contribute to the further development of these programmes. Excellent didactic skills and teaching experience are required.

The future professor is expected to build an internationally visible research team and take a leading role in the conception and implementation of interdisciplinary research projects in the field of Earth systems. Cooperation with the existing professorships at the Institute of Geosciences, with other departments of the University of Bonn as well as with partners within the Geoverbund ABC/J is desired, especially with contributions to the transdisciplinary research areas of the University of Bonn.
