DISIPA 2024, CSIRO internships

The Discovery Program, part of the Mineral Resources Business Unit at CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in Australia, is pleased to announce our annual global call for applicants for the CSIRO Discovery Postgraduate Internship Program (DISIPA), running from July 2024 to June 2025.

This program offers exceptional postgraduate university students the opportunity to undertake a 3-month internship at CSIRO. The internships align with the Discovery Program's research areas, focusing on Mineral Mapping, Mineral Exploration, Artificial Intelligence, Orebody Knowledge, Geodata Analytics, and Critical Metals. This year, we have eight internship grants available.

Successful applicants will receive a living allowance of AU$9K (AU$3K per month). They may also receive up to AU$500 to support their participation in a domestic or international conference and up to AU$1K for a flight ticket if the student is not based in Perth, Western Australia. The internships will primarily be based in Perth, unless stated otherwise or agreed upon. Visa and other travel expenses are not included in the internship package.

  6. Rock Dust Fertilisers Potential in Australia
  7. Qualitative Simulation of a Gold-forming Geological Process with Semantic Links
  8. WaveSynth: Integrating Physics and Machine Learning for Enhanced Seismic Wave Propagation Simulation
  9. Critical Mineral Extraction from Tailings
  10. Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Geoscience Knowledge Discovery
  11. Unlocking the Potential of Indicator Minerals in Australia for Mineral Exploration

  13. Critical Minerals: Understanding REE and HFSE in the Cover

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must be enrolled in a PhD or MSc degree program at any officially recognised university worldwide for the entire duration of the internship and have the approval of your PhD or MSc supervisor.

Application Process

To apply for an internship, please email Ignacio González-Álvarez (ignacio.gonzalez-alvarez@csiro.au) with the subject line "DISIPA Application" before midnight June 20th, 2024, Western Australian Time (this deadline is strict). The email should include the following documents:

A one-page cover letter summarising your research interests, top two preferred project titles, and motivation for choosing those projects.

A comprehensive CV should include your current university course, expected completion dates, and contact details of your academic supervisor. It should exclude pictures and unnecessary personal information.

Please note that all interns must be registered as postgraduate students at a university during the internship period. Upon acceptance, interns will be assigned to a research group and provided with a supervisor to guide them throughout their internship. Interns are expected to deliver an oral presentation to communicate their research findings at the end of the program.

We aim to notify applicants of the outcome of their applications by July 30th, 2024.
