![]() 1 Postdoc and 2 PhD positions in Experimental Petrology/Geochemistry at ETH ZürichThe Experimental Petrology Group at the Department of Earth Sciences invites applications for one postdoc and two PhD positions on the petrology and geochemistry of deep Earth processes. Candidates should have experimental or analytical experience, yet, a keen interest in applying physical mechanics and thermodynamics to characterise petrologic and geochemical processes is the most important. The focus of these positions is on redox equilibria, volatiles and isotopes as relevant for primary mantle melts and their differentiation. The successful candidates will perform high-temperature high-pressure experiments under well controlled conditions to simulate melting and crystallization processes using in part unique experimental equipment, still, evaluating the natural rock record is part of the projects. The positions will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found, the starting date should be within 2023. The annual PhD salary is ~47'000 Swiss Francs, the postdoc salary ~92'000 Swiss Francs. At ETH, PhD completion is expected within 4 years; the initial postdoc appointment will be for 2 years, but is extendable. The successful candidates are expected to fulfil some laboratory and/or teaching duties (~10%). Inquiries and applications in the form of a single pdf-file (including a brief statement of research interests) should be addressed to Max W. Schmidt (max.schmidt@erdw.ethz.ch). |
