Research Professor (Ore Geology)
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for a Research Professor in Ore Geology with focus on the mineral systems and ore forming processes, regional scale metallogeny and applied ore geology and mineralogy. You will develop state-of-the-art research and innovations as well as customer-oriented applications in the field of ore geology and mineral intelligence. Furthermore, your responsibility is to promote and participate to the thematic development of our world class mineral and ore deposit knowledge. You are expected to successfully bid for competitive research funding sources and to initiate, prepare and lead national and international science and innovation (S&I) projects in the field, thus implementing strategic competence development.
You will work in the Mineral Economy Solutions unit and collaborate with GTK's researchers and partners. Your office will be in Espoo, Rovaniemi, Kuopio, Kokkola or in Outokumpu and you can also work remotely flexibly in Finland.

What we expect
Eligibility requirements for the position are a doctoral degree in geology and an extensive knowledge in this field. You are a recognized international expert in Ore Geology and you have an excellent experience in the research of regional scale mineral systems and ore-forming processes relevant to Paleoproterozoic and Archean areas. We also expect excellent scientific track record related to ore deposit geology and mineralogy by applying cutting edge research methods. You can identify and solve new geoscientific research questions relevant to society. You have experience in scientific leadership and great track record of receiving competitive external funding.
You must be highly motivated, have well-established networks with international research groups and you are an inspiring mentor. Excellent communication skills in English as well as excellent interpersonal skills are expected.

Experience in mineral economics as well as in novel methods of numerical modelling are appreciated in the position.

Information about pay
The total salary at the beginning of employment will be EUR 6080-6480 per month. The salary is determined by the competence of the person selected for the position.

Other details
The successful applicant will be selected to a permanent Senior Scientist position and appointed to be a Professor for a period of five years with the possibility of continuation to a second 5-year term or permanent professorship. The preferred starting date is 1.10.2022 or by agreement.
