The Institute of Applied Geosciences at KIT, with its long history dating back to 1825, offers a new M.Sc. program on Sustainable Energy-Raw Materials-Storage (ERS). You will be educated to tackle the major energy, raw materials and technological shifts towards a sustainable low-carbon society.
We provide you with fundamental skills on geoenergy, underground storage, sustainable mineral resources supply and long-term environmental assessment. This qualifies you to continue your career in industry, academia, government or NGOs. Occupational fields include national and international companies in exploration and production, underground storage, environmental protection, civil engineering and tunnel construction.
Thriving student activity within KIT is driven by the SPE student chapter, focusing on energy and storage, and the Black Forest-Alpine SGA student chapter, focusing on raw materials.
Our ERS profile is closely linked to KIT research in the Helmholtz program for geoenergy, and the THINKTANK Industrial Resource Strategies on raw materials supply. Helmholtz's geothermal energy program strives for internationally visible large-scale infrastructures. The institute offers world-class IT and analytical facilities such as its geochemical and petrophysical laboratories.
The 2-year M.Sc. program, in English, includes courses, practicals and field trips. Various subjects can be chosen from our comprehensive course offer after own interest.
Karlsruhe is a mid-size town in a German industrial and high-tech region, only one hour from the international hub in Frankfurt. It is one of the warmest and sunniest cities in Germany, making warm summer evenings in the historical park area around the castle an enjoyable student experience.
Requirements for application:
You need to have successfully finished a B.Sc. program or equivalent in the broad field of geosciences. Depending on your ECTS credits in geology and mathematical or other natural science, supplement modules may apply. Your qualification in English language must equal at least the B2 level. Students from non-EU countries will be obliged to pay EUR 1,500 per semester as tuition fee.
