The LIAG-Institute for Applied Geophysics is an independent research institution in Hannover (Germany) that develops and operates scientific information systems such as the Geothermal Information System GeotIS. The "WarmeGut" project is an outstanding large-scale research project which aims to support the heat transition with geothermal energy in Germany.

Your tasks:

  • Acquisition of geological data from data archives
  • Identification and selection of relevant data sets and parameters for shallow geothermal energy
  • Merging geodata into maps and models
  • Writing articles in English and German for knowledge transfer in geothermal energy
  • Geological interpretations of geoscientific data
  • Development of 3D geological models
  • Maintenance of geothermal databases
  • Communication of results in an interdisciplinary team
  • Documentation

Required qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in geosciences or a similar field with a master's degree or comparable degree
  • English language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • German language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • Experience in geological data analysis
  • Experience in processing geological data from data archives
  • Experience in writing technical texts for the general public
  • Knowledge of archiving geodata
  • Knowledge of geology
  • Knowledge of GIS systems such as QGis or ArcGIS or comparable
  • Very good communication skills in an international team
  • Very good organizational skills

Ideally, you also meet the following requirements:

  • Experience in the characterization of geothermal reservoirs
  • Experience in correlating borehole geophysical data with other geoscientific data
  • Knowledge of databases
  • Knowledge of 3D geological modeling
  • Knowledge of geophysics
