The LIAG-Institute for Applied Geophysics is an independent research institution in Hannover with many years of practical expertise in geothermal exploration. One of our current research projects is the "WarmUp project", which supports the development of medium-deep geothermal energy for the heat transition in Germany with its scientific work.

Your tasks:

  • Selection of suitable geodata for geothermal interpretation
  • Interpretation of borehole data with regard to geothermal reservoirs
  • Evaluation of probability of success (POS studies) of geothermal projects
  • Comparison of POS studies with actual well productivity
  • Further development of the LIAG methodology for POS studies
  • Survey of the geothermal play type concept
  • Updating and further development of the play type concept
  • Writing peer-reviewed publications on the topic of Play Type in international journals
  • Maintenance of scientific databases
  • Cooperation in an interdisciplinary team

Required qualifications and experience:

  • University Master's degree in geosciences or geophysics
  • English language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • German language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • Experience in geosystems analysis
  • Experience in the graphical representation of geoscientific data
  • Very good knowledge of geothermal energy (near the surface and deep)
  • Knowledge in georesource valuation
  • Knowledge of reservoir or borehole hydraulics
  • Knowledge of GIS systems such as QGis or ArcGIS or comparable
  • Very good communication skills in an international team
  • Very good organizational skills

Ideally, you also meet the following requirements:

  • Experience in geological interpretation
  • Experience in digital borehole log interpretation (e.g. with WellCAD)
  • Knowledge in the preparation of probability of success studies
  • Knowledge of 3D geological modelling (e.g. with goCAD)
  • Good knowledge of the geology of Germany
