MSc Opportunities: Mineral Deposits Geochemistry & Applied Mineralogy

New opportunities for thesis based M.Sc. studies in the Dept. of Earth Sciences are available, with enrollment for the 2023-24 academic year. Successful applicants will join a team of students and collaborating faculty engaged in integrated field and analytical studies of hydrothermal ore deposits, their broader paleoenvironment, and regional metallogeny (with a current emphasis on the late Neoproterozoic terranes of Atlantic Canada), as well as development of advanced and automated instrumental analysis for metal deportment studies (with a current emphasis on the geometallurgy of high priority critical metals). The proposed projects will involve active use of the advanced analytical instrumentation available within the CREAIT Microanalysis Facility (MAF) and CREAIT Earth Resources and Analysis Facility (TERRA) (https://www.mun.ca/creait/) - including SIMS, LA-ICP-MS, SEM-EDX-MLA and EPMA.

Prospective students with a strong background in mineralogy, geochemistry, sedimentology and economic geology are particularly encouraged to apply. Previous experience with one or more techniques for instrumental microanalysis would be an asset, especially for candidates interested in M.Sc. projects concentrating on Applied Mineralogy.
