![]() ![]() M.Sc. program GeosciencesInstitute of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics (IGMG), Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB)The Institute of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics (IGMG) of the Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) offers a broad education in the Earth Sciences taught by a vibrant and international group of lecturers and researchers. We provide prospective students with fundamental skills in Resource Geology, Applied Geology (Engineering and Hydrogeochemistry), Mineralogy, Petrology, Sedimentary and high-temperature Geochemistry, Structural Geology, Seismology, Physical Geology and Geophysics. Our MSc. study program is closely linked to the research carried out at the IGMG and other research partners here at the RUB, and with multiple industry partners. The 2-year M.Sc. program, taught in English, includes courses, practicals and field trips, as well as laboratory and experimental work. Various subjects can be chosen from our comprehensive study program that caters to a plethora of interests. Additionally, in cooperation with the Universidad Nacional de San Juan we offer the bi-national German-Argentinean double degree Master "Applied Geothermics" with financial support by the "Deutsch-Argentinisches Hochschulzentrum" (DAHZ/CUAA). Bochum is a mid-sized city at the center of the former industrial heartland of West Germany, the Ruhrgebiet, which is gradually transforming itself into a new tech hub in the center of Europe. It is a university town, with a vibrant nightlife, and a young, colorful and lively community. It has solid public transport connections to various neighboring urban centers like Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund and Essen. Requirements for application: You need to have successfully finished a B.Sc. program or equivalent in the field of geosciences. Depending on your ECTS credits in geology and mathematics or other natural science, supplement modules may apply. Your qualification in the English language must equal at least the B2 level. Please note that students pursuing an MSc. geared towards Engineering Geology are required to have advanced knowledge of the German language.
