Working field: We are looking for a scientist for a 3-year BMBF project "Sustainable Groundwater Management" (LURCH) in the framework of the strategy "Research for Sustainability (FONA)".

The subproject is carried out in cooperation with numerous research institutions in Germany (e.g. Ruhr-Uni-Bochum, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Uni Duisburg-Essen).

The primary goal of the subproject is the verification of trace elements as process and source indicators for the mobility and input of pollutants in groundwater. For this purpose, the complex interrelationships that control the mobility of trace elements in groundwater are to be recorded and the transport of selected trace elements is to be modeled.

The advertised position is responsible for:

  • evaluation of available terrain data on trace elements at the study site
  • planning, execution, and evaluation of column experiments conducted under aquifer-typical conditions
  • modeling of reactive solute transport using PhreeqC.

The position holder will be expected to support project management and knowledge communication. The position is suitable for doctoral studies.

Requirements:

  • successfully completed university degree (Diploma, Master or equivalent) in geosciences, hydrogeology, geochemistry or related subjects
  • experimental and analytical experience is a strong advantage (column experiments, batch experiments, fluid sampling, ICP-MS/ICP-OES)
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • excellent organizational and communication skills
  • very good German and English skills (written and spoken) required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
  • good computer skills (excel, word)
  • experience with 1D reactive solute transport is an advantage
  • programming languages such as Python or R are an advantage
