![]() Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the fields of Engineering Geophysics or Geotechnical EngineeringWe wish to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the fields of Engineering Geophysics or Geotechnical Engineering. The successful candidate will work on the project "Multi-scale Investigation of Bio-Based Mineral Precipitation in Carbonate Bearing Granular Soils and Construction Related Waste". This project is funded under the US-Ireland Centre to Centre scheme in partnership with the Centre for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics (CBBG), and the Energy Efficient Materials Research Centre (EEM) in Queen's University Belfast. The project aims to extend the domain of microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) and enzyme induced carbonate precipitation (EICP) as ground improvement technologies to carbonate-bearing soils. Both MICP and EICP will be investigated on these soils as sustainable alternatives to cement based technologies. The successful candidate will primarily use laboratory and field geophysical and/or geotechnical techniques to monitor the soil stabilisation process. This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
