The Geology Department and Environmental Studies Program at Whitman College are seeking candidates for a multi-year position with expertise in surficial geological processes and human interactions with the environment, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024. A Ph.D. is required upon starting the position. The position may be renewed for two additional years pending positive evaluation of teaching.

The successful candidate will teach two interdisciplinary courses (Introduction to Environmental Studies and Environmental Studies Senior Seminar), as well as several courses in geology including Environmental Geology, Geomorphology, and an introductory geology course in the applicant's area of expertise. The teaching load is five courses. The successful candidate will have the option of participating in the Geology Department's twice yearly, 4-day Regional Geology field trips. The Geology Department and Environmental Studies Program value creative approaches to integrating teaching and scholarship and cultivating inclusive learning environments.

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000
