This is three year position with possibility of extension for 4th year. The Marine Biogeochemistry Laboratory is inviting applications for a PhD student that will focus on the denitrification and anammox process both in the water column and sediments of the Baltic Sea. The successful candidate will work on a project funded by National Science Center IDEAL: Investigation of seasonal variability of the water column and sediment DEnitrification and Anammox in the BaLtic Sea to study denitrification and anammox rates using chemical and microbial techniques (DNA and RNA sequencing) http://www.iopan.gda.pl/projects/Ideal/index.html The PhD student will have a chance to apply for additional grants within the NCN (https://www.ncn.gov.pl/en ). The institution has a PhD students community. While the primary focus of the work will be in research, the Postdoctoral Investigator will have the opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the project. Essential Functions Strong background in marine biogeochemistry are considered as requirement. Candidate is required to hold a master degree in geochemistry, oceanology or chemistry. Experience in chemical substances analyses and laboratory work is welcomed. Candidate is required to have very good English written and spoken skills. Experience in taking part in research cruises or field work will be greeted so as experience in presenting results and writing publications.
