Vacant Position as Researcher - Seabed Acoustics

As a researcher in marine geology you will participate in our regular tasks related to geological mapping of the Norwegian offshore areas. You will be involved in geological map production as well as research and development using multibeam echosounder data for interpretation and spatial prediction of seabed conditions and processes. Important tasks will be:

  • Modelling/interpretation of seabed conditions and processes for geological map production
  • Processing of acoustic data with a focus on multibeam bathymetry and backscatter
  • Database work
  • Present results in reports and scientific journals and at meetings and conferences
  • Participation at scientific cruises is an option

Necessary Qualifications

  • PhD in seabed acoustics/geophysics
  • Thorough understanding of acoustical theory related to multibeam echosounder systems (bathymetry and backscatter) and experience with acquisition, processing and interpretation of such data (including multispectral data) focussed on sediment classification
  • Experience with GIS/ArcGIS, data analysis and scripting (R, Phyton etc.)
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of geological conditions and processes, preferably within marine geology
  • Good communication skills in English and preferably a Scandinavian language

We offer

Salary is regulated by the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service, researcher code 1109, from NOK 580,000 to NOK 830,000 gross per year depending on qualifications. As a Norwegian state employee you contribute 2 % of your salary to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. Anyone applying for the position must apply digitally through the job portal Webcruiter.
