Assistant, Associate or Full Professor - Coastal Processes

Deadline: Dec 31, 2022 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Description

The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) at Stony Brook University invites applications for a faculty position at any rank in Marine Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, or Sustainability with a focus on processes in the coastal environment. As a public university dedicated to addressing society's greatest challenges through research and education, we understand that a genuine commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) is key to academic excellence, new discoveries, and societal change. Candidates with such a commitment, and whose research is broadly related to understanding how integrated coastal systems are shaped by biological, chemical, ecological, geological, physical, and/or socioeconomic processes are strongly encouraged to apply. Examples of possible research foci include, but are not limited to, the study of processes in the atmosphere, the water column, the seafloor, and/or across interfaces (air-sea, sediment-water, land-sea) in urbanized and natural coastal zone settings in the context of natural variability, expanding population pressure, climate change, and extreme weather events.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and will teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as mentor students. The candidate will actively participate in departmental and university service, especially with respect to contributions promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity. SoMAS is a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary environment, with opportunities for collaborations within the School to advance its research mission, and the candidate will establish and sustain an independent externally funded research program.

Consistent with SoMAS' commitment to diversity and inclusion, this opportunity is open to candidates at all academic ranks. Candidates for the rank of Associate or Full Professor should have distinguished records of research and educational activities. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
