Texas A&M University's Accountability, Climate, Equity, and Scholarship (ACES) Faculty Fellows Program is a faculty hiring program that connects early career faculty advancing outstanding scholarship with relevant disciplinary units on campus. Faculty are hired as ACES Assistant Professors with the expectation of transitioning to tenure track (pending departmental review) by the end of the fellowship period. ACES is administered by the Office for Diversity in partnership with the College of Arts & Sciences.

The Department of Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University is seeking applications for one ACES Assistant Professor. This position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023. The successful candidate should apply observational, experimental, theoretical, analytical, data-science, or modeling methods to make new and innovative oceanographic discoveries. We welcome applications from individuals with expertise in any area of oceanography, including those that would enhance interdisciplinary initiatives. We particularly welcome applications with disciplinary interests in biogeochemical/Earth system modeling, marine ecology, or marine sedimentology/geophysics, and/or who can leverage existing Texas A&M University Centers of Excellence listed below.

The Department of Oceanography, located in College Station, Texas, is part of an alliance of Ocean Sciences that includes the Marine Sciences and Marine Biology Departments at TAMU Galveston, the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group, the International Laboratory for High-Resolution Earth System Prediction, the International Ocean Discovery Program, the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System, and Texas Sea Grant. This alliance of Ocean Sciences represents a unique concentration of educational and research resources. The capacity is greatly enhanced by close ties to the College of Arts and Sciences Departments of Geology and Geophysics, Geography, and Atmospheric Sciences, and the interdisciplinary Environmental Programs and Water Management and Hydrologic Sciences degree programs.

The ACES Faculty Fellows Program promotes the research, teaching, and scholarship of early career scholars who embrace the belief that diversity is an indispensable component of academic excellence. The objective is for ACES Assistant Professors to transition to tenure-track faculty by the end of the fellowship.   • Texas A&M University's ACES Faculty Fellows Program is an up to two-year (24 month) fellowship for early career PhDs. Applicants' degrees should be completed no more than four years from the time of application. ACES Assistant Professors begin their appointment in August.
  • The benefits and stipend are department specific. Benefits including medical, dental, and vision are available. The faculty fellowship period generally begins August 1 and ends on July 31. Start dates are negotiable, but must commence between July 1 and August 10.
  • ACES Assistant Professors will receive reimbursement for one-time relocation fees, a research and travel allowance as specified in the position description, and a private office.
  • ACES Assistant Professors will teach one course per academic year, thereby benefiting from dedicated research time. Fellows will hold the title of ACES Assistant Professor.
  • A hallmark of the Texas A&M University's ACES Faculty Fellows Program is the mentoring ACES Assistant Professors will receive, as well as its attention to community-building.


Texas A&M University's ACES Faculty Fellows Program is an up to two-year (24 month) fellowship for early career PhDs. Applicants' degrees should be completed no more than four years from the time of application. Applicants' should have earned their doctoral degrees (PhD) between January 1, 2019 and July 1, 2023. Applications are welcome from scholars with a strength in, and evidence of, a respect for diversity and inclusion. We invite applications from scholars whose work aligns with a field in the College of Arts & Sciences in Oceanography.

  6. One writing sample (e.g., book chapter, chapter from your dissertation; journal article; work under review; or work in progress)
