Job Ref: 2024DILIFRUA81

Are you interested in pursuing a PhD in deep-water sedimentology and stratigraphy?

Applications are invited for an exciting PhD studentship in Deep-marine Sedimentology and Stratigraphy at the Department of Geology of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, starting in autumn 2024, and with a 3-year duration (with potential to be extended).

The studentship aims to apply recent advances in the study of sediment gravity flow processes to improve understanding of their interaction with seabed relief. The research programme is led by Professors David Hodgson and Jeff Peakall (University of Leeds), Dr Ian Kane (University of Manchester) and Dr Miquel Poyatos-Moré (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). The studentship will focus on fieldwork in deep-water systems of the South Pyrenean Foreland Basin, with the potential to complement and support parallel fieldwork in East Greenland and the analysis of subsurface systems from the Jurassic of the North Sea.

You should have an MSc in geoscience, with skills in, or willingness to learn, field-based deep-marine sedimentary processes and stratigraphic successions. You will be willing to contribute and be part of a diverse and international research team.

The post is based at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, a vibrant campus university located in Cerdanyola del Vallés, in the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain (https://www.uab.cat/en).
