Postdoctoral Fellow

Title: Postdoctoral researcher
Duration: 2 -3 years
Basic Salary: Minimum 250,000RMB per year

Research areas:

  • Seismic monitoring and early warning of different types of geohazards, such as landslides, debris flows, flooding, etc.;
  • Mechanism of Large-scale Geohazard Dynamics using soil/rock mechanic experiments and analysis;
  • Climate Change Modelling and Disasters in High-Mountain Cryosphere Investigation, e.g. GLOFs, rock/ice avalanches-debris flows, landslides caused by glacier retreating.
  • Geophysical investigation of landslides and glaciers

Desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, or experience with, patterns and processes of landslide occurrence;
  • Demonstrable skills of geotechnical or geophysical tests;
  • Experience in numerical modeling and programming (e.g. in MATLAB, R, Python).
  • Demonstrable experience with quantitative topographic analysis and manipulation of spatial data (e.g., digital elevation models, remotely-sensed imagery) using a geographic information system;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

The State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection (SKLGP) at Chengdu University of Technology, situated in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Southwest China, stands as a globally renowned institute. As the sole NATIONAL level laboratory in China dedicated to geohazard prevention, engineering geology, and geotechnology, SKLGP boasts cutting-edge instruments and equipment. These resources are designed to comprehensively facilitate various geohazard and geotechnical research endeavors, encompassing on-site and laboratory tests, monitoring activities, geotechnical parameter assessments, physical and numerical modelling systems, as well as GIS and RS analysis systems.

The successful candidate will collaborate directly with Professor Xuanmei Fan, Vice Director of SKLGP and Director of the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation at Chengdu University of Technology. Moreover, they will be seamlessly integrated into a vibrant research group comprising professionals, postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. and M.Sc. candidates, totalling approximately 40 individuals. This research group maintains extensive collaborations with professionals from Cardiff University, Padova University, Florence University, University of Southampton, Edinburgh University and etc., enhancing the depth and breadth of our research initiatives.
