GNS Science is New Zealand's primary Institute for research on understanding earthquake hazards and reducing earthquake risks and is recognised internationally in these areas.

We are seeking a talented, motivated seismologist for a permanent, full-time position in our Avalon, Lower Hutt office. The Seismologist will undertake research to develop or apply seismic / seismogeodetic techniques for earthquake source inversion, and broadband ground motion simulation. They will propose and contribute to high-priority funded research projects, and earthquake response as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Research experience in seismogeodesy and earthquake source processes and/or research experience in ground motion modelling.
• A PhD in and/or postdoctoral experience in seismology.
• Excellent computing and programming skills to develop and adapt robust scientific code.
• Experience working in a research environment as part of a team.
• Strong communication and writing skills

The salary range for this position is between $100,800 to $112,000 depending on the successful candidate's experience.
