The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn invites applications for a

W2-Professorship for Hydrogeology

at the Institute of Geosciences, Geology Section, starting on April 1st, 2024.

We are looking for an internationally renowned scientist with an outstanding track record in innovative research that quantifies hydrogeological processes and mechanisms, aiming to understand groundwater distribution, fluxes, chemistry and vulnerability. This should involve numerical modelling and ideally link with aspects of climate change, e.g., at the hydrosphere-cryosphere transition or the terrestrial-marine transition.

Teaching is an integral part of the professorship. The future professor is expected to cover the entire range of hydrogeology/hydrogeochemistry and numerical process modelling in the B.Sc. Geosciences and M.Sc. Geology degree programmes, and to contribute to the further development of these programmes. Excellent didactic skills and teaching experience are required.

The future professor is expected to build an internationally visible research team and take a leading role in the conception and implementation of interdisciplinary research projects in the field of Earth systems. Cooperation with the existing professorships at the Institute of Geosciences, with other departments of the University of Bonn as well as with partners within the Geoverbund ABC/J is desired, especially with contributions to the transdisciplinary research areas of the University of Bonn. Active participation in academic management is mandatory.

The hiring requirements are based on § 36 HG NRW.

The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunities. It is certified as a family-friendly university and has a Dual Career Service.
