The Role

We are seeking a proactive Intermediate to Senior Hydro-geophysicist to be a part of the recent growth of groundwater sector funding in New Zealand. The hydro-geophysicist will undertake commercial and research projects focusing on aquifer characterisation and provide specialist geophysical input to a world-leading interdisciplinary hydrogeological and groundwater modelling team. Opportunities will include, but are not limited to, projects utilising airborne electromagnetic data for groundwater mapping and modelling, and satellite remote sensing data to characterise freshwater fluxes to groundwater. We have a strong focus on working collaboratively with end-users to achieve fit-for-purpose outcomes, and a large portion of the work is likely to be commercial (applied research). The hydro-geophysicist will engage with end-users to enable rapid uptake of project results by freshwater managers and community groups. We are seeking someone with innovation, integrity, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

This position is for permanent, full time (38 hours per week) employment and will ideally be based at our site in Taup? with an option to be based at our site in Wellington.

The salary range for this position is between $81,700 to $146,600 depending on the successful candidate's experience.

About You

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential

  • A post graduate degree in geophysics, hydrogeology, geoscience, physics, or related field
  • Documented experience with being involved in, or bringing together multi-disciplinary studies of geophysics and hydrogeological systems
  • Proven track record of effectively managing projects, particularly client-facing applied research projects
  • Consultancy or journal publications in the fields of airborne electromagnetics and/or satellite remote sensing
  • Strong coding and data manipulation skills
  • Demonstration of interpreting and clearly communicating (written and oral) scientific concepts
