Senior scientist/Research scientist
(groundwater studies and climate change)

At GTK, we aim to work for the Earth and for Us. We conduct objective research to find solutions to challenges posed by climate change, the energy transition, and the circular economy. Our 400 experts are specialists in the mineral economy, green energy, water management, the environment, and digital solutions. Together with our Finnish and global partners, we are building sustainable and carbon-neutral future. GTK is a research organization governed by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

The Geological Survey of Finland is looking for a senior scientist/research scientist for groundwater and climate change studies in the Water Management Solutions Unit. You will mainly work in Espoo, but the offices in Kokkola or Kuopio are also possible. You can also work flexibly remotely from anywhere in Finland. You will act as a specialist in demanding and interdisciplinary national and international research projects related to the groundwater impact of climate change. Possible other research topics are the interaction between surface water and groundwater, as well as water management in mining environments. You will participate in the development of the unit's water management studies and in funding calls, and direct research work in jointly and budget funded projects. Your duties can also include demanding customer assignments. Your job description will include active publishing and participation in international and national scientific meetings and workshops, where you will present research results and promote the visibility and impact of projects. You will contribute to strengthening the field's stakeholder activities, promoting national and international communication and networking.

You will work with experienced researchers from our various units and be part of the Water Management Solutions unit, which has approximately 30 researchers and five research assistants. Our unit is focused on glaciogenic porous aquifers and on fractured bedrock hydrogeology, serving the needs of water supply, managed aquifer recharge (MAR) and water management in mining environments. In addition, we carry out flow, transport and reactive transport modelling. You will be positioned in the research-oriented water management group which specializes in mining environments. Your position in the unit is new, so with the associate research professor, you will be able to influence the more precise content of the position.

  • Good teamwork skills and a self-directed and independent approach to work
