The Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG) is an independent research institute in Hannover. It focuses on the exploration of the accessible subsurface, the development of measurement and evaluation methods and the operation and enhancement of information systems such as the Geothermal Information System GeotIS and the Geophysics Information System. As part of the collaborative project THC-Prognos, data on the composition of thermal waters in Germany will be compiled, validated, analysed and published in GeotIS at the LIAG. The project will thus make an important contribution to the heat transition and the supply of raw materials (e.g. lithium). For this we are looking for a hydrogeologist.

Your tasks:

  • Research, processing, correction and validation of hydrochemical data
  • Mapping of thermal water composition based on geological 3D models
  • Development of workflows
  • Set-up and maintenance of the project website and social media channels, organisation of fair activities (GeoTHERM)
  • Adding the topic thermal water hydrochemistry to LIAG's eLearning programme
  • Giving presentations of the results and publishing them
  • Documentation of the project results
  • Supplementing the GeotIS help pages
  • Organisation of expert workshops

Required qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in geosciences, chemistry, engineering or a similar subject with a master's degree
  • English language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • Sound understanding of hydrochemistry
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology and structural geology
  • Confident demeanour
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team

Ideally, you also meet the following requirements:

  • Working knowledge of geostatistics (preferably kriging)
  • GIS know-how
  • Experience in processing large amounts of data
  • Experience in geological 3D modelling
  • Experience in web content management and social media
  • Knowledge of geothermal energy utilisation
