The Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG) is an independent research institute in Hannover. It focuses on the exploration of the accessible subsurface, the development of measurement and evaluation methods and the operation and enhancement of information systems such as the Geothermal Information System GeotIS and the Geophysics Information System. As part of the collaborative project THC-Prognos, data on the composition of thermal waters in Germany will be compiled, validated, analysed and published in GeotIS at the LIAG. The project will thus make an important contribution to the heat transition and the supply of raw materials (e.g. lithium). For this we are looking for a hydrogeologist.

Your tasks:

  • Collection and consolidation of hydrochemical data
  • Organisation and quality control of thermal water data sets
  • Setting up of workflows
  • Analysis and interpretation of hydrochemical data using hydrogeological models
  • Expansion of the hydrochemical database
  • Adding the topic thermal water hydrochemistry to the LIAG's eLearning programme
  • Giving presentations of the results and publishing them
  • Documentation of the project results
  • Completion of the GeotIS help pages
  • Organisation of expert workshops

Required qualifications and experience:

  • University degree in geosciences, chemistry, engineering or a similar subject with a master's degree
  • English language skills (at least comparable to level B2 GeR)
  • Sound knowledge of hydrochemistry
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Basic understanding of database design
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team

Ideally, you also meet the following requirements:

  • Strong SQL skills
  • GIS know-how
  • Experience in processing large amounts of data
  • Experience in academic teaching or in the authoring of eLearning content
  • Knowledge of geothermal energy utilisation
