About the Role

This is a dynamic leadership position that offers a great deal of variety, and professional interest and challenge. You'll lead a team of five Analysts to facilitate a greater understanding of the risks posed by natural hazards in Otago. From understanding flood, storm surge and extreme weather risks, to earthquake and tsunami events, and landslide and alluvial fan hazards. You'll be well supported by the Manager Natural Hazards and will be part of a wider Natural Hazards team of ten staff.

This is a full-time permanent position with a salary range of $102,000 to $120,000 per annum dependent on skills, experience, and performance.

  • Lead a team of five and provide direction and support, enable the team to perform at its best.
  • Oversee delivery of complex multi-year work programmes, investigations and assessments, and monitoring programmes.
  • Provide information and specialist advice to inform decision-making and community responses.
  • Contribute at a strategic and business planning level, including to identify emerging issues.
  • Engage with community and project stakeholders, and form collaborative working relationships internally and with emergency management, councils, consultants and contractors.

Skills & Experience

  • A qualification in earth or physical sciences, environmental engineering or associated fields.
  • Prior delivery management experience including project / programme management.
  • A strong interest in leading others ideally with prior experience.
  • Scientific curiosity, plus the confidence and technical expertise to present and advise.
